Welland International Flatwater Centre
Welland annually welcomes flatwater sport athletes from around the world to the WIFC (Welland International Flatwater Centre) North Course and South Course, both known for their pristine conditions. Home to two international standard courses, the newly created flatwater centre is situated on 272 acres of waterway. From community-based initiatives, to training sessions, to hard fought competitions and championships, the activities around the WIFC are a catalyst for economic development to local businesses and broader community engagement.
The WIFC annually hosts 20+ flatwater events, including both local and provincial regattas. The WIFC continues to bring the world to the City of Welland as the host for the 2012 FINA World Junior Open Water Swim Championships, the 2013 International Canoe Federation Junior and Under 23 Canoe Sprint World Championships. It is also the future venue for the 2015 International Dragon Boat Federation World Dragon Boat Racing Championships, 2015 Pan American Games Canoe Kayak Sprint competition, and the 2018 International Canoe Federation Canoe Polo World Championships.
